A English class activity which turned into Chaos...; 29th July 2025.
Not every day in college feels worth writing about, but this one definitely did. Our English teacher, Mrs. Uthara Suresh, decided to try something different during our lab session and let me tell you, it was a wild ride from start to finish.
It all started when she divided us into four teams. Each of us was told to take a sheet of paper and told to write one big letter on each side. We had no idea what was coming, but everyone was curious. Then she explained the activity: she would say a word, and each team had to use their "letter-people" to form that word as fast as possible. The first team to get the word right would win a point.
At first, it was all laughs and excitement. Letters were flying, people were running to take their position, and everyone was shouting to coordinate. You’d hear stuff like “Where’s R?” “We need an A!” “Flip your page, bro, you’ve got the other letter!” It was honestly one of the most fun and engaging classroom activities I’ve been part of.
But… it didn’t take long before the volume got out of hand. The shouting turned into chaos. Teams started yelling over each other, the room echoed with noise, and the game slowly became unmanageable. At one point, I think even ma’am couldn’t hear herself speak. Eventually, she paused everything and told us to settle down.
Instead of ending the session there, she smoothly transitioned into something else.
She pulled up a set of images and said we were going to try a one-minute speaking activity. Some students volunteered to do the activity. They would be shown a random image, and they had to talk about it on the spot for one full minute. No preparation, no notes just raw thinking and speaking.
I won’t lie, I was a bit nervous when it was my turn. Speaking in front of everyone, without time to think things through, isn't exactly easy. But once I started talking, something clicked. I don’t even remember everything I said I just remember that I actually did it. And it felt great.
That lab session taught me more than just English. It showed me how spontaneous activities can push you out of your comfort zone, how fun can slip into chaos when energy isn’t balanced, and how confidence sometimes comes when you’re least expecting it.
I walked out of that room smiling because for once, an English class wasn’t about textbooks or grammar drills. It was about expression, teamwork, and learning in the most unexpected way.
